Richard Tawney, 1880-1962, was educated at Rugby and Balliol College, Oxford. He was a fellow at Balliol, 1918-1921, and an honorary fellow, 1938. Tawney was a member of the executive committee of the Workers' Educational Association (WEA) 1905, and held WEA tutorial classes in Rochdale and Manchester, 1908-1914. Dorothea Oschinsky (1910-95), historian, teacher, and benefactor of Cambridge University Library. She was born in Silesia and completed a Ph.D. at Breslau University, although the degree was not awarded because of her Jewish descent. She came to England, studied with Eileen Power and Eleanora Carus-Wilson at the London School of Economics, and became Lecturer in Palaeography, Liverpool University, 1946-72, and Reader, 1972-76.
